Couples assessment sessions and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) sessions may be scheduled for up to 80 minutes as needed.

How do I set up an initial appointment?
Please call me at (805) 556-5532 or email me at elizabethlongtherapy@gmail.com to schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation.
Do you offer phone or video sessions?
I do offer phone or video sessions if a client is unable to attend a session in person because of distance or scheduling difficulties. However, I prefer to work with clients face to face, because that helps me be better attuned and really see you while we are working together.
Do couples fight in front of you?
Yes, sometimes couples fight in front of me; in fact, at times I encourage it. It helps me see how clients are with one another when they are not their best selves; this helps to inform the couples work that I do and allows me to provide better guidance.
Do you take sides?
When I work with a couple, the “relationship” is my client. I make every effort to support both partners equally through the process. My goal is to help the “relationship” heal to the benefit of both partners.
Do I have to tell you everything?
You only have to tell me what you feel comfortable telling me. We will always work at a pace that is comfortable to you. The more open and honest you can be in therapy, the better I am able to help you.
With whom do you work?
I work primarily with adult clients of all ages, including men and women… as well as couples who are married, partnered, or premarital.
What is your professional training and experience?
I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from UCLA; a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from USUB, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
I have had the opportunity to work with many diverse populations, including addiction recovery, veterans’ services, homeless families, and trauma.
I am trained in EMDR through the EMDR International Association and in couples therapy using the Gottman Method.
How long have you been in practice?
I have been practicing individual, couples, and family therapy for over ten years. I began the transition to a private practice of my own in January 2019.
What do you enjoy about being a therapist?
I love the process of therapy from start to finish. I love getting to know and understand my clients on a deep level. I am always honored to be able to hold the hope for them until they find hope for themselves.
It is an amazing thing to bear witness to the healing that happens in the therapeutic setting. To see the light come back into someone’s eyes and the joy return to their lives are gifts for which I am truly grateful.
If I spot you in line at the grocery store, what should I do?
We live in a small town, and there is a pretty good chance that I might run into you at the grocery store, a concert, or other community event. I tend to err on the side of caution when seeing my clients in public in order to preserve confidentiality, so I will typically not acknowledge you until you acknowledge me.
Should I tell you if you have salad in your teeth?
Please do! And I promise to tell you, too!
Cats or Dogs?
I like them both; however, I am currently a “dog mom” to a Mini Schnauzer named Winston; I sometimes refer to him as my “cat-dog” because he makes us work for his snuggles.
